Keeping every lead you’ve ever collected just isn’t realistic and it can be a costly mistake. Purging old unengaged contacts is one of the fastest and most effective ways to save with HubSpot. Removing a few thousand contacts from your HubSpot Professional Plan can save you thousands per year.

Here are some ideas to help you clean house and save some $$$:


Start with Deliverability Testing

One of your top priorities should be knowing exactly where your emails are actually landing (i.e. inbox or spam) or if you're listed on any blacklists. You have spent countless hours collecting leads, strategizing, and creating content, which could all be for nothing if you're aren’t making it in the inbox. We use a tool called GlockApps to consistently monitor our deliverability, IP reputation, and domain health.

Get Rid of Unengaged Contacts, Bounces, and Unsubscribes

It may be tough to hear, but if someone is unengaged after 8-15 emails, they probably aren’t going to do business with you. Let them go and move on. Secondly, if you’ve tested your deliverability and are following best practices, it’s time to remove all hard bounces from your database- chances are it’s an invalid email or they are no longer with the company. This last point should go without saying, but there is no sense in keeping unsubscribed leads. Go ahead and purge them from your list.


Remove Competitors and Vendors

Your database will slowly (but surely) become bogged down with contacts from your competitors and vendors who are checking out all your services, offers, and assets - take it as a compliment. These contacts will never become customers, so make sure you're keeping a close eye on them so you can suppress them from your campaigns and remove them regularly.
